Great News for Charleston Real Estate: Local Housing Market Named Among the Top Five in the U.S.

National trade publication Builder Magazine has included Charleston in its annual roundup of the nation’s 20 healthiest housing markets, placing it in the fifth spot among markets most likely to rise to the top as the national housing market begins to recover. The annual study is conducted by the publication’s market research arm, Hanley Wood Market Intelligence.

“The markets that (rebound) first will be the ones with the strongest core dynamics; places where house prices never got out of hand, cities where a diverse and progressive employment base drives job creation, and towns that continue to draw population despite the economic recession,” writes Boyce Thompson in an article summarizing the results of the “Builder Market Health Index” for 2010. Plans for “The Market at Carnes Crossroads” Announced Harris Teeter Confirmed as Anchor Tenant for Carnes Retail Center

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charlotte-based developer Lincoln Harris has acquired commercial property within Carnes Crossroads — the commercial corridor for the Daniel Island Company’s new Carnes community in Goose Creek, South Carolina — and has announced plans for the initial 15-acre phase of “The Market at Carnes Crossroads,” a retail-oriented development.  Anchored by a 48,756 square foot Harris Teeter grocery store (the first for this area of Charleston), the center will feature 60,000 square feet of specialty shops and restaurants, 25,000 square feet of office space and multiple outparcel operators. ROPER ST. FRANCIS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO EXPAND AT CARNES CROSSROADS

Medical Office Building To Be Located in Goose Creek at Hwy 17 and 176

Charleston, SC, September 19, 2007 –   Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) officials today announced plans for a new medical facility to be located at Carnes Crossroads at the intersection of Highway 17A and 176 in Berkeley County.  RSFH has signed an agreement to purchase 66 acres of land from The Daniel Island Company.  Once the purchase is finalized in October, hospital officials say they will begin immediate development of six acres for a medical office building, which will house primary care and specialty physicians as well as diagnostic services including laboratory and imaging.  The medical facility will be part of the commercial corridor being developed by The Daniel Island Company as part of its new 2,300-acre mixed-use planned community, Carnes. Daniel Island Company Receives Second ‘Building With Trees’ Award from National Arbor Day Foundation

Ralston Creek Is Only Golf Course Recognized
Among Environmental Leaders for 2007 in Tree Preservation

CHARLESTON, SC – The Daniel Island Club’s Ralston Creek course was chosen as one of only four recipients of the National Arbor Day Foundation’s 2007 “Building with Trees Award of Excellence.” The award recognized the efforts of The Daniel Island Company to protect and preserve trees during design and construction of the course, which opened in 2006.

The Daniel Island Company is the only developer in the program’s history that has won a Building with Trees award more than one time. The Daniel Island Club’s Beresford Creek Course, which was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2000, won the award in 2003. Ralston Creek was the only golf course to receive the award in 2007.
